The Ideal Alternative to Regular Sugar

Palm flower sugar is derived from the “Thnôt” palm tree, also known as the Palmyra palm, of the species Borassus flabellifer. Across the country, these palm trees adorn the Cambodian countryside, particularly in the Kampong Speu province where palm flower sugar is the only sugar to obtain a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) in 2019.

Obtained from the sap of palm flowers, the sugar is organic and does not involve any chemical additives. The palm tree is cultivated without pesticides or fertilizers and requires minimal water consumption. With a surprising caramelized flavor, slight spiciness, and honey-like sweetness, palm flower sugar replaces regular sugar in your most delicious recipes.

It should not be confused with the oil palm species. In fact, there are over 4,000 different species of palm trees.

Treasure of Cambodia

Throughout the country, “Thnôt” palm trees shape the Cambodian countryside, particularly in the province of Kampong Speu, where palm flower sugar obtained a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) in 2019. It is the second Cambodian product, after Kampot pepper, to receive this designation.

Palm flower sugar is cultivated using ancestral and traditional know-how, mastered by a few Cambodian farmers’ cooperatives.

The palm tree is grown without pesticides or fertilizers and requires very little water.

Do Not Confuse!

Do not confuse it with oil palm species! There are over 4,000 different species of palm trees!

SCIENTIFICALLY DEMONSTRATED

Scientific Project

In collaboration with supervising researchers and the NQS Nutrition Quality Health Master’s program at Sorbonne University, we have determined the nutritional characteristics of our Kampong Speu IGP palm sugar.

Exceptional characteristics

100% natural and unrefined, palm sugar is the ideal alternative to white sugar due to its low glycemic index. Its composition differs from simple regular sugar and is more nutrient-dense. It is rich in copper and a source of potassium, making it a nutritionally valuable ingredient.
